I guess another single. But after flirting with indie dance, then Calvin Harris and Starsmith-produced EDM, Goulding is adding some Swedes to her arsenal for Delirium: Max Martin, Carl Falk, and Peter Svensson, to be specific. Then, so it's out this week, what's the next maybe year look like? I've had 50 songs so with that in mind.ĭefinitely. It's definitely not a case of quantity over quality. I just finished the deluxe version and there's quite a few on there. It feels like a fun one to perform, and then scream it out just because it's a bit more nostalgic. It makes me giggle when I sing the chorus because I feel like it's very relatable, it's communication. It's very layered with things I love and there is so much to it. I feel like a lot of my music has been inspired by the films that I've watched, so what’s better than to actually be in the film.ĭo you have a favorite song on the album, on Delirium ?

I think that would just be a dream for me. I'd love to spend time with a film, scoring it and creating it. I've been on the Hunger Games soundtracks. I've been heavily involved in soundtracks before, not just one track, like Divergent, I did the most of that soundtrack. After the success of your Fifty Shades of Grey single, are you now looking for opportunities in the film world a lot more? What's the word, when you like make those soundtracks?Ĭurate, yeah. I'd love to work with a film director, maybe like Quentin Tarantino to make a film soundtrack. Who is somebody you haven't yet gotten to that you'd love to?ĭepending on what you mean by collaboration, I'd love to make a film soundtrack with Ludovico Einaudi or even Hans Zimmer. I was trying to think of someone who'd be a bad idea for me to collaborate but I can't think of anyone right now off my head. I don't think I've ever made a terrible collaboration idea. Yeah, why not? I'm one of those artists they can trust.

You've been given license to just go out and do whatever. It obviously like, when you're with a label and that don't ordinarily have a say in what you do. If I want to work with someone, I just do. If I like someone and they reach out to me or I reach out to them and they feel the same way, then perfect. It really depends on who the artist is and whether I like their music. How do you choose which ones to do or who to work with? You've done, especially over the past year or so, quite a few collaborations that have become big. Maybe my instincts for this album were completely right because they feel so normal.

It's kind of like I thought all of this was out of my comfort zone and then now, when I perform them live-I've only performed them twice live-they feel totally comfortable. It means I've experimented with doing things I've always wanted to do which is make bigger sounding music. That's why I describe it as an experiment. I'm wanting to move up a level and see what I can do. I've built up this beautiful fan base I'm forever grateful for. Also, I'm in a more confident place right now. Maybe if I'd been in the Sahara or been in Russia or, I'm trying to think of random places, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia, it totally changes what you make. I don't know, like I said, it's like people bring out different things in you and also being in places. I think that it was a combination of things like me being in LA maybe. It can be a whole kind of number of factors. Would you say just the location shifted that or just the people you worked with? It struck me as something very different from the previous two albums. I feel that's why it's being described as a big pop album. I feel like it's not that different from my other sounds, it's just taken another level sonically I think. Yeah, this album has been something that I've wanted to do for a long time. That to me, was just like perfect, the thing that I've always wanted to do.

To be able to translate that into pop music and then with my voice too, in the mix. They’re fun and wizards of music, and my true joy is actually music. This one was mostly in LA and mostly with people that I love working with. Hereford does, so maybe that's what effected how I see my second album when I recorded it. LA has absolutely zero nostalgia for me whatsoever. Maybe that's because, I don't know, people that I've worked with, the people you work with kind of bring out different things in you. I feel like there's just a spirit, happy maybe is not the best word to describe it. There's always a dark side to anything happy that I do. Delirium can be either the two extremes of happy or sad. I wanted to use that word because I feel like the fact that I've written a fairly uplifting album has to be tarnished with something.
